2012 - 13 SBA Tournament Information

The SBA is pleased to invite your team and club to participate in our 2012-13 tournaments.  Please read the following important information and follow the prompts through our registration site.

Basketball Ontario Sanctioning

All SBA Tournaments will be sanctioned by Basketball Ontario and will follow their guidelines with regards to FIBA game rules, use of Board Certified referees, Fair Play code of conduct for participants and spectators, person to person defense/equal participation for U10 to U12 age group games, and use of shot clocks for all U15 to U19 age group games

Cost
The per team entry fee for all 2012-13 tournaments will be $500.  Teams will be required to pay by either credit card (online) or by cheque.  Tournament participation will only be guaranteed when the entry fee has been paid in full.  Spots will not be held for teams that have not paid.

Refunds/Cancellations
A refund of the entry fee (minus a $50 administrative fee) will be provided anytime before the FOUR weeks prior to the tournament.  Refunds will not be provided after that time.

Facilities
The Hoopdome remains the main site for all SBA Tournaments.  The new athletic centre at Centennial College will be added this year as a site for some tournament games.  High School gyms in Scarborough/Toronto will also be used for some tournament games. [click for Gym information and maps]

Guarantee Games
Each team will be guaranteed 3 games.  Teams advancing to the playoffs will play up to 2 additional games.

Tournament Format
Teams will be divided into divisions of 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, or 16 teams.  Teams will then be split into pools.  In 8, 10, 12 or 16 team divisions there will be a semifinal round and a Championship game.  In divisions of 4 or 6 teams there will be a Championship game following the 3 guarantee games.  There will be no Bronze medal games in any of the divisions.

Team Rankings
Each team will be asked during the registration process to rate their team in terms of level of play (ie: AAA+; AAA; AAA-; AA+; AA; AA-; A).  The SBA will do its best to create divisions of teams at or close to the same level. 
***Note: It is the responsibility of the team to choose the appropriately level that fits their teams.  If this rating changes at some point prior to the tournament the team is responsible for informing the SBA prior to FOUR weeks before the tournament.  No changes will be made after that time.

Schedule
The schedule will be emailed to all teams approximately 8-10 days prior to the tournament.  Any special requests regarding the schedule or changes relating to level of play/divisions WILL NOT be accepted following the release of the schedule.
